FINSA&LEED(TM) GREEN BUILDING Setiembre 29, 2011

Created by Finsa>> Categorie  Environmentally sustainable Construction  Construction  Sustainability

The LEEDTM Rating System (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) developed by the USGBC (U.S. Green Building Council) operated in Spain through the CCVE (Green Building Council of Spain, www.spaingbc.org) establish standards for environmentally sustainable construction.

LEEDTM point the buildings based on their sustainability. If it is new construction or major renovations, according to the latest revision to the Leed guide, entitled LEEDTM 2009, can get a maximum of 110 points. Thresholds required for certification are: Certified (with 40 points), Silver (50), Gold (60) and the best Platinum (80). Additional points are established by innovation and design (5), regional priority (4) and one point for having a Leed accredited professional as a member of the project team.

LEEDTM system promotes and encourages the use of sustainable materials and increases the interest in research and innovation about sustainable products.

DECOTEC TRENDS: THE CLASSICS ARE BACK Setiembre 27, 2011

TRENDS: THE CLASSICS ARE BACK

After several years predominated by exotic woods such as teak; by European woods such as Italian walnut, pine and larch; even by solid colours, we now see a semi-return of oak. We say semi-return because oak has never left. It has always been present. At times in a secondary position, just as those garments we keep in the wardrobe that never go out of fashion.

Now oak again returns to the forefront and we see it in different versions, tones and applications. Decotec recently displayed 3 types of oak, PADDOCK, CARDIGAN and TREVELIN which differ greatly among themselves but practically covering the whole range of applications for home or office furniture, and even for commercial or institutional decoration.

PADDOCK is a striped oak, with a “negative” pore, in other words, the pore is lighter than the background colour. Its linear nature is slightly interrupted by the “half crowns” effect, just hinted at, providing it with greater liveliness and visual balance. Although PADDOCK has quite a wide range of tones, we are presenting a greyish colour which takes full advantage of this model's virtues and which favour its combination with white, grey and black tones.

CARDIGAN is a slated oak with unique features: a combination of pores, typical oak marks, “frisé” effect, all of them highlighted by metallic paint. The colours that best match with CARDIGAN are dark tones from the brown and grey ranges. This new presentation of oak is appropriate for all types of environments requiring elegant and sophisticated furniture.

TREVELIN is the result of art applied to wood: a reconstituted oak, arranged in small strips to create irregular shapes providing a very innovative effect. Here we propose a natural oak tone to create warm environments. TREVELIN is a model that can be applied both to details in juvenile furniture, as well as to kitchen and cupboard fronts which, at a distance, convey the feeling of a uni-colour but when coming closer we discover the subtle structure of this composition.

Ecodiseño Project Setiembre 14, 2011

Created by Finsa>> Categorie  Products  Sustainability

A three-bottle box (Finsa) was presented for the Ecodesign project.

The Project, sponsored by ENISA, Empresa Nacional de Innovación [National Innovation Company] which depends upon the General Directorate for SME Policies, of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce, was developed by ICTA-SosteniPra, by the University of Santiago de Compostela and by Inèdit. Its purpose is the environmental improvement of products from three innovative Spanish companies in the textiles, wood and urban elements sectors: Ecoalf, Finsa and Santa & Cole, respectively.

Finsa proposes a 3-bottle box based on the concepts of increased service life and enhanced functionality, as well as usage of local materials (hemp handle), which may help reduce the global environmental impact by more than 35%.

In order to leverage functionality and maximize its use, the work has been developed considering two types of solutions: By applying guiding diagrams (tools, shoes, sewing materials, etc)    on the back of the cover, which indicates possible uses for the packaging once its purpose as a wine-bottle case is over. And by making small modifications, a hole, so that it may be used as a nest-box.

The main environmental indicators show that, regarding this box, there has been a 26% reduction in the associated energy consumption and a 31% reduction in the carbon footprint.
