High performance alternative to solid laminate from FINSA

The multi-national Spanish FINSA Group is at the cutting edge of developing high performance wood-based and composite products for a wide variety of application across a range of industry sectors.

All FINSA developments are high-tech solution providing products that offer users both additional application scope and excellent performance. Inherent in the development of such products is to offer the user additional value as well.

One of the latest of these is an extremely cost effective alternative to solid laminate used in so many public usage and contract situations. The FINSA product is called DM.COMPAQ1100 and is essentially technically very high grade high density fibreboard (HDF) bonded with moisture resistant synthetic resins.

FINSA Middle East Managing Director Miguel Cordero explains: "At the top end of the application scale for solid grade laminate, probably around 30%, there is no alternative (like specification that calls for specific chemical resistance), but for the remaining approximately 70% DM.COMPAQ1100 is a fully viable alternative in all respects at much less cost. This translates into significant savings on any project and will often be the crucial difference in winning a tender."

DM.COMPAQ1100 presents excellent performance characteristics: It has a high density (more than 1000kg/m³) as well as tensile strength, bending strength, elasticity and high impact resistance. It is well suited to environments of persistent high humidity.

Therefore DM.COMPAQ1100 covers a great variety of existing and future applications – educational furniture, public area toilet cubicles, locker room furniture, hospital and laboratory furniture, hotel and leisure area furniture and panelling, wall cladding and work surfaces…to name some.

This exciting new FINSA material comes in thickness of between 8 – 19mm and a variety of colour tones and patterns. DM.COMPAQ1100 can also be covered with different surfacing and edging materials. It machines as easily as other wood-based composites and, says Miguel Cordero, has another advantage in that it is not nearly as abrasive as solid grade laminate so extends the tool life on fabricating machines.
