Introdution
Joining techniques
After producing the veneer, the strips are sanitised using a specialised guillotine and then the strips are jointed using glue or thread to produce a useable sheet know as a “LAYON”. The visual effects required in the final panel can be achieved by the method of jointing.
Book Matching
Book Matching
The most common method, each veneer strip is a mirror image
of the next one
Reverse
Reverse slip match
Generally used with crown cut veneers. Every second veneer
strip is turned end to allow for better distribution of the
crowns throughout the layon
Slip Matched
Slip Matched
The veneer strips are laid side by side to produce a repeating
pattern.
Mismatched
Mismatched/ Random Match/ Planked
Individual strips are random matched for effect especially common with veneers like Pippy Oak and Knotty Pine.
