Slicing techniques
he technique used to slice the log is an important factor in defining
the visual effects of the finished veneer. The veneer is produced on
powerful machines and in general there are 3 ways of slicing veneer:
Slicing: A
A. Quarter cut
produces mainly
straight grain patterns.
Slicing: B
B. Crown cut
produces a
crown pattern
with straight grain
on either side.
Rotary cut
Rotary cut
produces a non
descript wavy
pattern.
Stay Log
Half round slicing / Stay Log
produces wider
veneer. Mainly
used for oak
veneer.
